Fast Camera Animations from NSTX

These files were generated using data from Fast Phantom cameras operated by Lane Roquemore and Ricky Maqueda at PPPL.

Play the movies in your web browser, if it is configured to play MPEGs, or right-click on a file, and down-load it to your computer.

If you want to make your own movies from two cameras (if you can find them in one of the directories beneath /p/nstxcam or /p/nstxcam-archive), experiment with anim2cine.pro:

      IDL> f1=findcamfiles('nstx_1_135254.cin')
      IDL> f2=findcamfiles('Miro_135254.cin')
      IDL> anim2cine,f1,f2,t1=.180,t2=.580, inc=10, mag1=2, mag2=3
or just use the shot number as an argument to findcamfiles.pro and you will be prompted to choose from all .cin available from that shot (assuming they reside in conventional directories).

For MPEGs of a single .cin file, try cine2mpeg.pro, e.g.,

   IDL> cine2mpeg, shot=130277, t1=0.100, t2=0.200, /verbose, /view

For more control, you may examine individual camera files with fcplayer.pro.

To quickly see what data is available for shot nnnnnn, type

   findufc nnnnnn
In 2010 the Ricky Maqueda summarized our camera configuration (though it is subject to change):
In order to have all of the camera data organized and "standarized",
   the filenames should be:

      nstx_X_nnnnnn.cin

where X is the "camera number" and nnnnnn is the shot number.
Please MAKE SURE you use lower case since that makes a difference in Unix.

   The camera numbers should be

   1 Phantom710 Bay E top-down LLD camera (connected to nstx-focam1.pppl.gov)
2 Miro2 wide view aka plasma TV (connected to nstx-focam2.pppl.gov)
   3 Phantom7.3 Bay J top-dow LLD camera (connected to nstx-focam3.pppl.gov)
4 Phantom7.3 Bay F, currently on BES view
   5 Phantom710 on GPI
   6 Miro4-9373
   7 Phantom4-6878

The camera data should then be copied to the following folders:

   1 /p/nstxcam/Phantom710-9206/2010
   2 /p/nstxcam/Miro2-7988/2010
   3 /p/nstxcam/Phantom73-6663/2010
   4 /p/nstxcam/Phantom73-8032/2010
   5 /p/nstxcam/Phantom710-9205/2010
   6 /p/nstxcam/Miro4-9373/2010
   7 /p/nstxcam/Phantom4-6878/2010

For efficiency, shots from the current day may be found in similar directories under
   /p/nstxcamera.

To see what shots may interest you, search and view the NSTX Logbook with Plot Summaries or search databases, as with searchefitdb.html.
