- Lead a research task team
- Participate in a research task as a contributing member
- Carry out theory and modeling in support of a research task
- Develop innovative ideas for future experimentation
- Provide unique capabilities in or develop new diagnostics
- Carry out small-scale, non-intrusive investigations in plasma science
