NSTX Mission: Prove the ST Physics Principles for Attractive Applications
These principles are to be investigated in the scientifically interesting regimes relevant to the near-term applications such as the Volume Neutron Source (VNS), and future applications such as the power plant, characterized by
- High average bT (25 - 45%)
- High pressure-gradient-driven-current fraction (50 - 90%)
- Fully relaxed, noninductively sustained current profile
- Collisionless plasmas with high temperatures and densities
- Low aspect ratio, R0/a ? 1.25, and high elongation, k ? 2.0
