Installalling EPICS ALH on your PC.

Directions to install and run the Alarm Handler on a PC running Windows98, or newer.

Procedure:
1) If not already done, follow the procedure to install MEDM on your PC.

2) Make a shortcut to the batch file C:\NSTX\epics\StartALH.bat, and place it on your desktop. You can change the ICON for the shortcut... see Appendix A.

3) Double-click the desktop's StartALH shortcut icon to start the alarm handler.  Note that ALH will start using an included configuration file name chAlarm.alhConfig.

4) Make your own alh configuration files, put them in the C:\epics\alh_files directory, and copy/rename the batch file and create a desktop shortcut.

Appendix A - Additional Details

1) Use the right mouse button to rename the desktop shortcut to StartALH.
2) To change the shortcut icon for StartALH:
    a) Right-mouse click over the shorcut and select Properties.
    b) Poke the Change Icon button.
    c) Poke the Browse button.
    d) Browse to 'C:\Program Files\EPICS WIN32 Extensions' and select alh.exe.
    e) Poke the Open button.
    f) Poke the OK button on the Change Icon window..
    g) Poke the OK button on the StartALH Properties window.
